Feeling lost after the death of his mother, Mahito struggles to fit in at school and resents his family, but when he encounters a mischievous heron (Pattinson) who lures Mahito into believing he can be reunited with his mother, he follows the heron into an ethereal world where the dead live amongst magical creatures and humans with incredible powers.
