In 1950s New York City, Marty Mauser (Chalamet) believes in his heart that he is a world champion table tennis player. However, the sport is not taken seriously in America and is viewed as merely a hobby. As Marty pursues his dream, his personal and professional choices frequently alienate others and threaten any chance he has of achieving greatness.
